Job description

At SMAART Recruitment, we’re proud to partner with a highly respected, member-based industry association within the building and construction sector.

This organisation truly lives its values; not only supporting and promoting their industry, but also creating a positive, collaborative workplace with a genuine commitment to their team’s wellbeing and development.

We’re currently seeking an experienced and people-focused Future Careers & Industry Engagement Manager  to join them on a 16-month maternity leave contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a leadership role that blends team management, stakeholder engagement, and future workforce development. You’ll play a key role in shaping career pathways, supporting apprentices, and driving initiatives that strengthen the industry’s long-term success.

What you’ll be doing
  • Leading and mentoring 1 direct report, fostering a positive team culture
  • Driving outreach initiatives; career expos, roadshows, and events
  • Building relationships with TAFEs, education providers, RTOs, and industry stakeholders
  • Delivering engaging presentations to promote career pathways
  • Identifying skill shortages and supporting development initiatives
  • Managing and coordinating career-focused projects and programs
  • Collaborating with internal teams to align strategy and delivery
  • Providing guidance to apprentices, employers, and industry members
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure smooth delivery
What’s on offer
  • 16-month maternity leave contract (full-time)
  • $105,000–$110,000 package (inclusive of super)
  • East Melbourne (3002) office
  • Hybrid work: work from the office, at events and educational institutions, and WFH
  • A meaningful leadership role with real industry impact
  • A supportive, values-driven and collaborative team environment
  • A varied role across strategy, leadership, and hands-on delivery
  • Exposure to key industry stakeholders and education providers
What we’re looking for
  • Experience managing at least 1 direct report
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of apprenticeships, training pathways, or the VET sector (ideal)
  • Construction industry experience (highly regarded, not essential)
  • Confident communicator, comfortable presenting to diverse audiences
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • A genuine passion for developing people and future career pathways
If you’re looking for a role where you can genuinely make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.
