We are on the hunt for an experienced people leader to work with an innovative delivery provider to the construction industry. Due to growth, we are seeking an experienced leader who will drive operational performance throughout the service delivery of our clients’ product.

More about the role

Based in the inner-northern suburbs this role will be reporting to the Director and General Manager of the business and you will be accountable for all aspects of the day-to-day labour operation of the business.

You are a proactive leader and experienced in getting the best out of people, identifying labour efficiencies, cost management, fleet management and ultimately customer service.

This position will suit an experienced hands-on leader who doesn’t just want to sit behind a desk. This is a role that’s more like 50/50 when it comes to paperwork vs getting out with your team and customers.

The successful candidate will be a leader who has a proven record of implementing new systems and procedure in the spirit of efficiency, has an appetite for change and has a desire to grow the workforce, fleet and customer base over the coming years.

Position responsibilities
  • Responsible for overall safety and compliance procedures ensuring all policy and procedure and WHS systems are up to date and adhered to.
  • Aware of and compliance with the Chain of Responsibility covering the transport and logistics industry in relation to the operation of heavy vehicles and facilitate the training of staff in this area.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the operation, ensuring the efficient scheduling of labour and deliveries and timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Accountable for the profitability of the operations of the business within clearly set budgets and KPI’s.
  • Responsible for the leadership of personnel including hiring, on-boarding, up-skilling, training and performance management of the team. The team perform a physically demanding role.
  • Build ongoing relationships with all operational stakeholders: customers, depots, suppliers and other members of the executive team.
Skills, attributes, and qualifications required to be successful in the role:  
  • 2 years minimum experience within a similar role as part of the leadership team. Building or transport industry will be highly regarded.
  • Proven success managing a team ensuring compliance with workplace safety and company policies.
  • Demonstrated experience building a medium-sized workforce of 30 to 40 individuals including hiring, reviewing, performance management and providing a pathway for individuals to up-skill.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of managing labour costing and a sound understanding of business and financial management.
  • Be a hands-on leader with a positive attitude and an appetite for change.
